A List of High Fiber Foods and How They Can Supercharge Your Diet

Fiber cannot actually be digested by our stomach. Their job is to help your digestive system push food out.

Dietary fibers are divided into two groups, insoluble and soluble fiber foods.

Soluble Fiber

Soluble fiber is the part that dissolves in water and forms a gel that helps your stomach prevent both diarrhea and constipation.

It has also been shown to lower cholesterol because some foods contain something called beta glucan which can bind to bile acids (these bile acids contain cholesterol!).

Here's a short list of foods high in soluble fiber:

  • Rye
  • Soy
  • Oats
  • Barley
  • Quinoa
  • Carrots
  • Bananas
  • Beans
  • Flax seeds

You can see that all of the foods on that list are healthy foods. There's a reason for this connection; when you look at the insoluble fiber list you will notice the same thing.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water like soluble fiber does, instead it helps push material through the colon by softening and increasing the bulk of your stool.

It is usually found in...

  • Skins of fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Whole grain products

Again you'll notice that the foods that contain soluble fiber also contain insoluble fiber.

Instead of giving you a huge list of foods to eat I'll tell you the secret of healthy foods...

Are you ready?

If a food is made by nature, it is healthy and is most likely high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber.

You can see examples of foods made by nature from the lists above, the less something is processed the better.

It is when foods are processed that they lose most of what makes them healthy.

For example, fruits and vegetables are better than grains, because grains need more processing for our bodies to be able to digest it, you can't eat raw wheat for example.

Oh, and don't go crazy on the meat! Even though meat is "from nature" it can easily clog your system.
