It's particularly recommended during flare-ups to ease the stress on the body. It can also be used after an operation to reduce the frequency and volume of your stools. The general consensus is that this diet should contain less than 10-15 grams of fiber per day. I do not recommend that you use this diet for long periods of time since it severely reduces the intake of healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables and beans. This can lead to a deficiency in many vitamins and minerals. Note that there are differences between a low residue diet and a low fiber diet.
