The definition of a prolapsed hemorrhoid is: an internal hemorrhoid that has descended below the pectinate line and protruded outside the anal sphincter.

This is a fancy way of saying that you have an internal hemorrhoid that has slipped out and is now hanging loose.

These kind of hemorrhoids are usually not painful unless they develop into thrombosed hemorrhoids.

The Symptoms

Before a hemorrhoid becomes prolapsed, it starts as a normal internal hemorrhoid and grows until it starts protruding out of your anus.

You know when you have a protruding hemorrhoid when a red mass of tissue comes out of your anus and it is wet and covered with mucosa.

It may look disgusting, but a protruding hemorrhoid is usually not dangerous or life threatening.

The Degrees

There are four degrees of internal hemorrhoids, this grading system was developed by Banov et al in 1985. It measures the severity of hemorrhoids by how much they protrude into the anal canal.

• Grade I hemorrhoids can bleed but do not prolapse.
• Grade II hemorrhoids may prolapse when straining but return on their own.
• Grade III hemorrhoids prolapse spontaneously or with straining and require that you push it back in manually.
• Grade IV hemorrhoids prolapse and cannot be pushed back.

What Can You Do?

The first thing you should do is visit your physician and ask him for advice. Many other anorectal diseases have the same symptoms as hemorrhoids and can sometimes be mistaken for hemorrhoids.

There are steps you can take to get pain relief from your hemorrhoid, here are a few recommendations:

1. Take warm baths three or more times a day.
2. Clean your anus gently with moist toilet paper.
3. Use hydrocortisone cream for itching or pain.
4. Try a cream that contains witch hazel for relief.
5. Use ice packs to relieve hemorrhoid swelling.
6. Eat more fruits and vegetables to create softer stools.
7. Drink chamomille tea.
8. Get rid of your hemorrhoids with the Hemorrhoid Miracle program.
9. Squat.

I'll expand on that last point in just a second. I just want to make it clear that if you use creams, do not expect them to cure the problem, they are only meant to temporary relieve pain until you come up with something better.

Squatting

In other countries they use toilets where you have to squat. A small study done by Dr. Berko Sikirov in 1987 took 20 patients that suffered from hemorrhoids and had them use squat toilets.

18 of the 20 patients were completely relieved of their hemorrhoids without them coming back even 30 months after the study.

This study was small, but when 90% of the patients were completely cured, it has to say something about squatting, doesn't it?
