I did the original Master Cleanse about a year and a half ago. I stayed on it for 30 days. I lost about 20 pounds and felt great.
Since then, my diet has been quite healthy yet my weight loss has plateaued. (I'm not out of the woods, yet!)
I didn't like the idea of the "starvation" signals I feel that my body received the last time I did the cleanse. My "re-entry" into eating "real" food again was very very slow as I felt the danger of "bingeing" on lots of food was very present.
So this time I am trying something a little different:
1. Adding "green supplements" to provide some nutrition without actually eating food. I am taking capsules of spirulina and chlorella several times throughout the day. (UPDATE: I am adding capsules of kelp and a blend of wheat grass, barley greens, alfalfa, dandelion and oat greens.)
2. Adding EFA's and oil. When I did the cleanse last time, my skin became very, very dry (and it's dry already!). I am taking capsules of fish oil, evening primrose oil and borage oil throughout the day.
3. Instead of the laxative tea and salt water drink: Each morning I prepare my "delicious lemon drink" ~~ Put one whole organic lemon chopped (seeds, peel and all) into blender. Add 2 generous tablespoons of organic cold-pressed olive oil and a good dash of cayenne. Add half a glass of distilled water and process until smooth and creamy. (A variation is to process it briefly and strain out some of the solids before drinking)
This is a good liver cleanser. I use the strained version 5 days a week when I am not cleansing, the "full" version once per week and take one day off.)
Each night before bed I drink a glass of distilled water with psyllium seed husks in it.
4. Other supplements include capsules of maca, acerola vitamin C, garlic, vitamin D3 and drops of DHLA.
5. Originally I planned to substitute (low glycemic) organic agave syrup for the (high glycemic) grade B maple syrup. On my first day I noticed that the agave didn't "last" as long and I was hungrier sooner than I was with the maple syrup. So I've mainly been using the maple syrup.
However, now I am spreading out my supplements more, making sure of taking one of the oils with each glass and that has solved the "hunger" problem. So I will experiment with substituting with the agave again.
6. I have not stopped my morning beverage of Teecino and Inka, drunk black.
The first time I did the Original Master Cleanse, I found it very easy to do. For me, it is so much easier to "never eat" then it is to make good food choices"!! Then it isn't a matter of sitting down to a meal, it's just refuel and get on with it.
I am on Day 3 of what I'm guessing might be a 15 day cleanse. I feel fine, plenty of energy. Regular (some what more frequent) bowel movements.
Thanks for the review, very thorough and well planned. Seems like you have a grip on your modified plan of action, keep us posted!

Update: by: Romance Goddess
So I am on Day 6 now. Yesterday, due to my busy schedule (and poor planning!), I neglected to:
1. Drink enough of the lemonade or water. 2. Take any supplements!
As a result:
1. I had less-than-optimal energy. 2. Experienced a little light headed-ness. 3. Felt hungry several times. 4. My body temperature thermostat was off and I felt cold (when everyone else was fine) 5. Woke up today with a headache.
Lesson learned! Otherwise, it is going very well. Today I will make sure to include a fresh green juice drink, something that I have meant to include each day but have not.
Tomorrow, I will start walking in the mornings, another thing I have been lax about.
Dry-brushing my skin too....Where IS that dry brush...?
MORE later...

Finished...for now. by: Romance Goddess
I'm essentially done with my Modified Master Cleanse. I fell off the wagon a few times (yes, birthdays DO require chocolate!!) and now I've essentially returned to "regular" eating. Not that regular, I suppose...
Our morning beverage is roasted dandelion root tea. (more like coffee!) I drink it black, D. uses
organic cream and agave in his.
We are eating 5-6 small meals per day.
One meal is a smoothie-like blender drink with one whole lemon (peel and all), 2-4 tbsp. olive oil (cold pressed, organic), distilled water, 1-3 raw eggs (from our free-range, organically fed chickens) and some kind of vegetable(s) like red bell peppers (good with strawberries!) or spinach, kale, broccoli, fennel, etc etc. Sometimes I add 6Tbsp. of brewers yeast, flax oil, and/or some of my homemade lacto-fermented sauerkraut.
Another meal might be a bit of my homemade kefir cheese (made with raw goat milk) and some "crispy nuts" from the Nourishing Traditions recipes (Sally Fallon---MY BIBLE) and slices of organic apple. (Fuji! yum!)
Another meal might be a smoothie made with my homemade raw goat kefir, frozen (or fresh) fruit like strawberries, blueberries, mango, raspberry, blackberry, acai, or whatever (organic), 1-3 raw eggs, maybe a little maple syrup if it really needs it, one whole lemon with peel, 2-4 Tbsp. olive oil.
Other meals might be a fresh green salad with oil and vinegar (or lemon juice) dressing or cooked (for my fiance) raw (for me) meat. He likes organic beef. I eat raw fish, beef and chicken. Sometimes I eat my meat lightly seared on the outside. We generally eat lacto-fermented sauerkraut or other lacto-fermented vegetables like peppers or beets with our meat. (See Nourishing Traditions!)
I try to include (time permitting) a fresh raw mostly green vegetable juice. (dandelion greens, kale, broccoli, spinach, fennel, arugula, parsley, beet, carrot, celery, asparagus, cucumber, bell pepper, garlic, ginger, green beans, etc etc). I have a Juiceman II Juicer that I use for that. The juice definitely counts as a meal! (very filling and nutrient-rich!)
I got some wheat to grow wheatgrass but I have not taken the time just yet.
When I get my food dehydrator (Excalibur! yay!), I will make vegetable chips and crackers to go with my kefir cheeses. I just finished a "bleu" cheese that turned out real yummy.
I will also make meat jerky.

the rest... by: Anonymous
Ran out of space....
Continued--
The supplements that we both take most days include: kelp, spirulina, coral calcium, garlic (allicidin), Vitamin C (acerola), Vit D3, cayenne, fish oil, flax oil, chlorella and maca.
I also take evening primrose oil, borage oil, and a metabolic thyroid formula.
D. works out on a Nordic Track and I walk around our "country road circuit", almost 2 miles of up and down, 5 mornings a week. In the evenings, I will be adding "walking a movie" on my treadmill as soon as we get it repaired. An hour and a half (two if we watch the special features!) should help to counteract the fact that I sit on my (rather generous) behind everyday working on my Romance Website!
Results of my Modified Master Cleanse? I didn't lose much weight but my skin looks fantastic and I feel FABULOUS! I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the way we are eating now. And exercising, of course.
My future holds a lap pool, I'm certain of it!!
So Henri, sorry it took me so long to comment...You've got a great site here! I hope my ramblings have been a useful addition...!
Ciao!

Cool stuff! by: Henri (The Owner)
Raw meat, cool! I do that sometimes. Raw chicken I don't really like. But to be honest, I've never tried it. I do enjoy raw milk from time to time though, it is deelicious!
Some very good info here, thanks for the contribution! :)
