22 Home Remedies for Constipation
That Actually Work!

advertisement

Are you bloated? Trouble getting anything to come out? I know what you mean, been there and done that!

Let's cut to the chase, here are 22 home remedies for constipation which I've found very useful whenever I feel constipated and don't want to use laxatives.

22 Home Remedies for Constipation You Can Use!

  1. Water
Try to drink 80-100 ounces (2-3 liters) everyday, even when you're not constipated you should drink a lot of fluids.

  2. Exercise
Moving your body has so many benefits, it not only releases relaxing hormones and makes you happier, but it also helps cure constipation. So go for a walk, swim or to the gym, whatever you like doing!

  3. Fruits
Bananas, Figs, Grapes, Oranges, Pears, Papayas and all those delicious fruits help relieve constipation. Eat as much as you want, they contain lots of nutrients and fiber.

  4. Vegetables
Greens contain a lot of fiber and other beneficial nutrients that will help not only your stomach, but your whole body. I like mixing spinach in a banana smoothie to get a big quantity down fast. If you are the salad-type then go ahead, mix some nuts, extra virgin olive oil, tomatoes, cucumbers in there and enjoy.

  5. Grains
Some people report success with grains but for me they just make me even more constipated. If you want you can try oatmeal, rye, bran and see if they help.

  6. Nuts & Seeds
Almonds, peanuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and walnuts are examples of good high fiber natural foods. They have my approval and work well!

  7. Yoghurt
Sugar and additive free yoghurt with plenty of friendly bacteria can help your stomach restore its function.

  8. Molasses
Eat a few tablespoons of blackstrap molasses before going to sleep, don't make it a habit though since they are high in calories!

  9. Probiotics
If you don't like yoghurt you can get healthy bacteria by taking a few capsules of probiotics. Check with your local health food store!

  10. Coffee
If you're a coffee person (I am not) then try drinking strong coffee. Coffee stimulates the digestive tract and gets it moving.

  11. Eat Small Meals
Small meals are easier to digest for your stomach and will help relax your whole body, try eating small meals for a week or two and see how you feel.

  12. Chew
This one is hard for me, when I've chewed my standard 3-4 times the food automatically wants to go down my throat. When you chew your food your mouth releases enzymes and your stomach can digest the food better. Try to chew your food until it has become liquid.

  13. Embrace the Urge
When you need to go to the toilet, just go! In today's sometimes hectic world we can easily ignore the urge to go, this programs your body to "hold it in".

  14. Avoid Junk!
Stop eating processed food and stick to what is available in nature. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are good examples. You'll get more nutrients, more fiber and your body doesn't have to take care of digesting the processed junk.

  15. Check Your Medication
Some medication can make you constipated, Google your medication and see if it can be the cause of your constipation.

  16. Psyllium Husk
A fiber supplement that strengthens your stomach muscles. It also prevents both diarrhea and constipation.

  17. Psyllium, Flax and Oat Bran
If psyllium husk alone doesn't help you then try mixing 2 parts psyllium, 1 part flax and 1 part oat bran, take it before bedtime until your constipation is cured.

  18. Raw Egg Smoothie
This is one of my favorite home remedies for constipation because it works so well for me. It tastes like eggnog with a banana flavor. Throw 2-4 bananas in your blender and blend until liquid, then add 2-4 raw organic eggs and blend on slow; then drink!

  19. The Bomb
1 cup prune juice, 1 cup coffee, 20-30cc milk of magnesia and warm it up. Drink before bedtime and you should be ready to go when you wake up.

  20. Aloe Vera Juice
I've tried this and it works! Aloe vera has a mild laxative and soothing effect.

  21. Honey
I've never actually used this one. It's on my to-do list next time I am constipated. Mix 1 part honey and 1 part warm water and drink a few times a day.

  22. Enema
If nothing else works then try an enema, it gives quick relief. Use only occasionally, otherwise you might risk making it worse.

Those are the home remedies for constipation I use the most. Some of these are almost guaranteed to work for you!
