![]() Description of Hemorrhoid Symptoms
A description of hemorrhoid symptoms can be helpful if you aren't quite sure if you have hemorrhoids or not. Sometimes a serious disease like colon cancer can be mistaken for hemorrhoids. It is important to know that a symptom like rectal bleeding could indicate colon cancer and should be checked out as soon as possible. Hemorrhoids usually do not bleed a lot, so if you notice a lot of blood in your stool, you might have something more serious than hemorrhoids. Not everyone experience symptoms when they have hemorrhoids. In the majority of cases, hemorrhoids are not dangerous or life threatening, just annoying :)
Two TypesThe location of a hemorrhoid is split into two simple groups, internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are formed inside your rectum and they are the ones that require medical assistance the most. External hemorrhoids are formed on the outside, around your anus, these are less often surgically removed unless they become severe and painful.
Four Different DegreesProlapsed hemorrhoids are often split into four different degrees depending on how severe they are. 1st degree - The hemorrhoids do not protrude outside the anus. 2nd degree - Prolapse occurs during your bowel movement, but returns once you stop straining. 3rd degree - Prolapse occurs, does not return, but is manually reducible. This means that they can be pushed back manually, by for example, your fingers. 4th degree - The hemorrhoids prolapse and cannot be pushed back. If you are not familiar with the word prolapse, it simply means that the hemorrhoid slips or falls out of your rectum. This applies to internal hemorrhoids only, since external hemorrhoids are already on the outside!
The SymptomsWhen you're at the toilet, finishing up and you notice a streak of blood on your toilet paper, you might have hemorrhoids. A streak of blood in your stool, on your toilet paper or in your toilet bowl is a classic sign of hemorrhoids. There are many other symptoms, but that is the one that is noticed the most. Here's a list of common hemorrhoid symptoms...
Please remember that bleeding and pain from your rectum are also symptoms of colorectal cancer. If you are over the age of 50 and suspect that you might have something more serious than hemorrhoids, contact your doctor immediately.
