![]() The Best Colon Cleanse DietThe best colon cleanse diet is without a doubt a raw plant-based diet. The large majority of this diet consists of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Our body digests and assimilates raw plant foods extremely well compared to cooked foods. If you eat a ripe fruit for example, it takes almost no effort for the body to break down, and you get plenty of energy left over for other things, like exercise!
NutrientsPlant foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, phytonutrients and all those goodies. These things help keep your body healthy and disease free. When you're new to eating raw foods it's easy to fall into the trap of just eating a lot of fruit. Your body needs the nutrients that are in vegetables too, remember that! A fast and easy way to get your greens in is to make a banana smoothie with some spinach. Blend as many bananas as you desire and throw in 100-200 grams (3.5-7 oz) spinach. If it seems like too much spinach, you can use less and work your way up!
Your Digestive SystemIf you eat a meal that is hard on your digestive system, you usually become tired and sometimes even require a nap. An example would be if you ate a big greasy pizza, big hamburger or a creamy pasta. This happens because your body has to transfer all available energy to take care of digesting what you just ate. This isn't the case with raw plant foods, although if you eat too many nuts and seeds the same thing can happen, so keep nuts and seeds to about a handful or two a day, and preferably raw and natural (not roasted and salted). So when you eat foods that are easy on your system, you give your body the chance to rest and rebuild!
FiberAlmost all raw plant-foods contain a lot of fiber, so you do not have to worry about getting enough dietary fiber if you're on this colon cleanse diet! That is another reason why raw plant-foods are phenomenal as a colon cleanse diet. The fiber absorbs water and helps push out old fecal matter and toxins that has been stuck inside your digestive tract.
Still Confused?Don't be! Start simply, you can start by only eating bananas for a few days and then add celery when you get sick of only eating bananas. You can blend the celery with your bananas or you can make fresh celery juice (if you have a juicer). If you decide to start eating more fruits, remember that you have to increase the volume of food you eat because fruits contain fewer calories per pound than cooked foods. Avoid excessive snacking, try to eat 4-5 times a day, but eat as many bananas as you can at each meal. I usually make a smoothie with 1-2 pounds of bananas. It will take some time for your stomach to get used to the higher volume, but it will adapt. So just eat what you can and do your best.
